  Modeling Stage:
This stage of modeling wasn't the most difficult. Basically, I used Standard Primitives, then converted them to Editable Polys to manipulate them. VrayDisplacementMod was used to create the roughness of the old metal. These results are difficult to achieve with simple modeling. I altered the wheels of the tractor because the initial variants were not similar to the original. This stage of the modeling was difficult to solve, what objects to add the scene. In general, the problem was not the complexity of modeling, but deciding what objects were necessary to create. In all there were 910,167 polygons, the tractor was 552,322 polygons.

Lighting Stage:
The lighting was one of the most difficult part of the scene. Initially, I wanted to make a cloudy day, particularly without shadows (One of final pictures is almost cloudy), but later I decided to add more bright lights to the scene. I used Target Spot Light, with VRay-shadows, to imitate the illumination of the sun.

  Texturing   Material/ Shader/ Texture
I used VRay materials with small shine for metal and glass. All materials have Bump maps except for the objects with VRayDisplacementMod. I used very complex textures in my work, some textures I made completely by myself, and others I photographed for textures. There are structures from that place where the tractor is. I used about 150 textures in my work. Some objects in the scene use the Opacity map: grass, trees, and also buildings on background of the scene.

Rendering/ Post:
I used VRay 1.50.09 for rendering. For post processing I used Photoshop CS3. I added birds on one of the final renderings, and fog on another. The image was color corrected. Brightness and contrast of the picture was improved, and sharpness and blur is added in some places.

How long did this scene take to complete from start to end?
The scene I made took a very long time, about 6 months. I didn't have much time to work in 3D. But if I had a little more time I could have made it in about 3 weeks.

What was the most challenging part of the project?
The longest part of the project was the arrangement of the objects, and putting it together in the scene. The concept of a scene varied from time to time, but I was helped by Russian 3d modelers at the 3dcenter.ru forum. Also a lot of time was dedicated to texturing, and lighting.

Do you like to model vehicle scenes?
Yes, I like it, but I always want to make something unusual and interesting. :-) The usual serial automobiles don’t interest me.

You have any favorite cg artists?
I think, no. I like the work of many CG-artists, but nobody specific.

Thank you Alexander.
Not at all, Kenneth! :-)
